Camping at Gettysburg National Military Park

GettysburgTrailPatchTent camping at Gettysburg National Military Park is available only at the McMillan Woods area of the park.  The campground is open from April through the end of October every year.  Camping is limited to Scout and other youth groups at McMillan Woods and site reservations must be made in advance at recreation.gov. Walk-ins are not permitted. Campsites are free, but there is a $9.00 reservation fee that is charged by recreation.gov.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, McMillan Woods Youth Campground is closed until further notice.

Other options for out-of-town troops traveling to Gettysburg include staying in cabins at our council’s Camp Tuckahoe (located about 26.4 miles north of Gettysburg, but an easy 35-minute drive on Rt. 15). In addition, we can frequently accommodate groups at our council’s Camp Conewago, located in New Oxford, PA (about 16.7 miles or 30 minutes from Gettysburg).

The National Park Service’s website for Gettysburg National Military Park is an excellent resource we strongly recommend units visit in planning their trip to Gettysburg.  We also recommend that units also check the National Park Service’s website for the status and most current information for McMillan Woods Youth Campground.

A terrific map of the battlefield and the town of Gettysburg is available on the National Park Service’s web site. It will help you get an idea of how things are laid out in and around the battlefield.
