New District Structure Approved by Executive Board
At its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 20, the New Birth of Freedom Council’s Executive Board approved a study committee’s proposal that will change the number of districts in the Council from eight to six. This study committee was comprised of four district chairs, four district commissioners and three Executive Board members, and was established to closely examine possible realignment of districts. Each of the Council’s present eight districts was represented in this study process.
To provide detailed informed regarding this change in district structure to our units, adult leaders and the Scouting community, we’ve created a special webpage. This page includes links to the study committee’s report, a map of the new district boundaries, and a listing of those school districts that will be served by each of the new districts. Please take a few minutes to visit this page and review the available materials. As new information about the implementation of this change becomes available, it will be posted on this webpage.
Each of the new districts will be selecting a new name in keeping with the historic importance of our area, which inspired the selection of the name New Birth of Freedom Council in 2010. Stay tuned for the details on how to suggest new names for each of the Council’s new districts.
Do You Rendezvous?
There’s been a date change for this fall’s “The Great Sherman’s Creek Rendezvous” that we wanted to let everyone know about. All units in the council can now plan to the “Great Rendezvous” at Hidden Valley from October 12-14, which is one weekend later than originally planned. This change was approved by the Executive Board to avoid conflicting with Penn State’s homecoming football game against Northwestern on Saturday, October 5.
Planning for this event is well underway and the weekend is sure to be action-packed for Scouts of all ages. Please update your unit’s calendar for the new dates because your unit won’t want to miss out on this “Great Rendezvous.”
