Summer Camp Scholarships Deadlines Approach
Every Scout should have the opportunity to attend summer camp. In support of that belief, the New Birth of Freedom Council offers camping scholarships to assist Scouts and their families with financial need. Camperships will only be issued to New Birth of Freedom Council Scouts and can only be used for New Birth of Freedom Council summer camp programs. Campership requests cannot exceed 50% of the discounted camp fee and is limited to only one summer camp experience. Remember, requests for camperships are due April 1. To apply, complete a campership application form and send it in to Camping Services, 400 Tuckahoe Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
Four Great Camps Stand Ready to Welcome YOU!
Located in south-central Pennsylvania, the New Birth of Freedom Council is blessed with four outstanding camping facilities totaling more than 2,800 acres. These camps are:
- Hidden Valley Scout Reservation – Loysville
- Camp Tuckahoe – Dillsburg
- Wizard Ranch – Hellam Township
- Camp Conewago – New Oxford
While Hidden Valley and Tuckahoe serves as the council’s summer camps, all four camps are available year-round with a variety of camping opportunities and facilities available. Boy Scout summer camp programs are available at both Hidden Valley and Tuckahoe, while all Cub Scout summer camp programs are offered at Tuckahoe.

HIDDEN VALLEY
- Fishing Derby-April 14, 2012
Wildlife and Habitat Stewardship
- Hike on designated trails only
- Keep a clean campsite
- Keep food and “smellables” out of your tent
- Do not feed wild animals
- Never approach or follow wild animals
- Avoid aggresseive behavior:
Direct eye contact, even through a camera
Walking directly toward an animal
Following an animal that has chosen to leave
Circling or standing around an animal
- Don’t mistake passive behavior in an animal as a sign that you are safe around that animal.
- Never tease or attempt to pick up wildlife
- Leave young animals alone; a protective mother is usually nearby
- Stay away from dead animals and berry patches, important food sources for bears
- If a potentially dangerous animal is sighted, immediately notify an adult leader
Important Year-Round Camp Reservation Dates
ALL CAMPS
- Reservations are currently open for September 1, 2011 until May 31, 2012.
CAMP TUCKAHOE
- May 1, 2012 – Reservations for September 2012-May 2013 for the Frontier Fort and the Medieval Castle only will open up for in-council packs only.
- June 6, 2012- At Program Launch, all of the cabins will open for September 2012-May 2013 for in-council units.
- July 1, 2012 – All cabins will open for September 2012-May 2013 for out-of-council units.
HIDDEN VALLEY
- June 6, 2012 – At Program Launch, all cabins will open for September 2012-May 2013 for in-council units.
- July 1, 2012 – All cabins for September 2012-May 2013 will open for out-of-council units.
