Ready to get WILD? All district Boy Scouts and Webelos (camping with a troop) are invited to this year’s Spring Camporee, being held at Camp Sinoquipe in Fort Littleton, PA the weekend of April 27-29, 2012.

With a wilderness living theme, participants will be able to learn and demonstrate skills in a round-robin format similar to a Klondike Derby.

See 2012 Frontier District Spring Camporee Brochure for more information and a registration form.

District Email List

The Frontier District is currently developing a new email list to enhance communications with our volunteers.

In exchange for you providing your email address to us, we promise to not flood your inbox with unnecessary clutter, and send out informative messages every week or two to keep you up to date on the Scouting world. All volunteers and interested adults are encouraged to subscribe, and none of the email addresses will be sold or provided to any other organizations.

To be added to the new email list, please provide your address to kevin.gill@scouting.org, and put “Frontier Email List” in the subject line.

In addition, we will continue to use this webpage to keep you “in the loop”. Be sure to check back often for updates!

Recharter and recharter packets

Remember – Recharter is on Saturday, December 3rd, at King Street Church. It is not in November this year but December. Please make your appointment and mark your calendar as needed. Please sign up for an appointment for your recharter. This allows us to serve everyone better and reduce waiting time. The url for your recharter appointment is http://2011recharter.eventbrite.com/

Recharter packets will be placed in the mail this week (we had reported at Roundtable that they might already be in the mail). The packets will be sent to the Unit Leader of record so Crew Advisers, Scoutmasters, and Cubmasters will be receiving the paperwork packets.

Recharter Training will be offered before Roundtable on November 10 beginning at 6:00pm. Bring a laptop if you have one so we can help you start your recharter (if you have concerns in that area). Online recharter is very simple if a few basic things are done in preparation. We will review this during this training. Please register at this url so we know how many people to expect –  http://www.frontierrecharterseminar.eventbrite.com.

Popcorn is Wrapping Up

Are you Ready?

The sales portion of the popcorn fundraiser is wrapping up. Are you ready for the next steps? Check out the latest edition of the Kernel Courier for details. Highlights are here.

1. Show and Sell – this is the last week (realistically ) for show and sell orders. How much popcorn do you have left? What do you take order sales look like? You can return popcorn this week but keep the popcorn you have to fill orders that you know about already.

2. Popcorn Returns – This is the ONLY week you can return popcorn. Returns will not be accepted after this week. Here is the popcorn return schedule:

Wednesday, Oct 19, 4-6pm
Thursday, Oct 20, 9am-5pm
Friday, Oct 21, 9am-5pm
Saturday, Oct 22 9am-Noon

POPCORN WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER SATURDAY!

3. Take order sales – Take order sales must be entered by the midnight Monday, October 24. Orders cannot be accepted after this date. Make sure that your popcorn ordering person attempts to log-in soon to make sure that everything is working for you. Please do not wait to Monday to call for help. Planning will make this go smoother for everyone.

4. Candle Sale – Candle orders are due at the same time but are ordered through a different site. Please check out the Kernel Courier for details.

5. Popcorn Distribution – This will occur on Friday Nov 11 from 4pm – 6pm. We will need help sorting and remember – once the sort is done you may leave with your popcorn. Please contact Bill.Tolleson@scouting.org if you are able to sort. Sorting will begin at around noon but we will have more detailed information as we get closer.

WE MAY BE AT A DIFFERENT DISTRIBUTION SITE THIS YEAR SO PLEASE FOLLOW THIS SITE CLOSELY. OHL in Chambersburg is doing very well and may not have room in the warehouse to accomodate us. We are happy that a local business is that busy!

The Magic of a Campfire

Baden and Baloo’s Campfire was a great success. We were ready to be in the pavillion at Chambersburg First Church of God but the weather once again smiled on the Boy Scouts and provided a beautiful evening. The wind ensured a great fire and the fellowship, songs, skits, and magical stylings of Park Bierbower guarranteed a lot of fun for all.

At about 8:10 the moon rose and added to the ambiance. Many thanks to Park Bierbower and Kathy Kohr for organizing the campfire, Daniel Lee for leading the flag ceremony to open up our campfire, and to everyone who came out for a great evening. Plan to attend next year and don’t let the weather keep you away from fun and exciting programs – you never know how it might change!

With almost 50 people in attendance

Baden and Baloo’s Campfire is a great fun campfire. Come out to Chambersburg First Church of God on Friday October 14.

Who is Baden Powell? He is the founder of the World Scouting movement. Here is a great simple article that highlights some key points about Baden Powell’s Life.
