Pack and Troops Start Planning Recruiting Events
Now is the time for packs and troops to start thinking about recruiting.
For packs, this is the time to start organizing for Spring Recruitment – not only does it prepare you for a strong Fall Recruitment the spring is a great time for boys to join and start participating in fun activities with the pack so they can get to know all of the boys.
As you prepare your Summer Den and Pack activities these new scouts and parents bring a great energy to your pack.
For Boy Scout Troops this is a great time to get new scouts involved in the troop and comfortable in their patrol before heading off to Summer Camp. For a 12 or 13 year old to join at this time summer camp lets them do a lot to catch up with boys who may have been in the troop since they were 10-11.
What ideas do you have that we can all get together to create great recruiting? What events work well for a troop or a pack? Which work well for a district level event?

Recruiting at the Heritage Center
We had a very successful recruiting night at the Heritage Center in downtown Chambersburg. Pack 125, 127, 134, and 138 showed up and each unit is reporting 2-5 new youth that are turning in applications.
We had more than 40 families come through to learn about scouting and learn about the Heritage Museum.
We thank that Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce for opening up the center for us to use.
What are your units doing for new scouts? We are getting closer and some units have not had any new youth join yet. Get in touch so we can help you out. Remember, the boys in your unit make the best recruiters since they can tell their friends what a great program you offer.
Keep roundin ‘em up.
Cubmaster John Leads Pack 121 to New Heights
Cubmaster John took a turn on the climbimg wall to show that he can go from the depths of the dunk tank to the top of the climbing wall and everywhere in between.
Pack 121 hosted Scouting Rocks this Saturday as a fun event to allow youth to come out and expereince scouting in a fun hands-on way. Many people had a chance to see that scouts do all kinds of things from the fun games for the cubs, a craft project, to shooting archery, climbing the wall, and of course dropping leaders into the water of the dunk tank.
John started off the dunk tank with some well timed quips to throw some people off. He still ended up spending a good bit of time in the water. Everone had a great time and the weather was perfect.
The pack sold food and hosted several up and coming performers who played like it was Hershey center. Several bands and individuals shared their talents and positive messages with us.
We all had a good time. If you weren’t there then plan to come next year.
Scouting Rocks – Lots of Fun for All
We had a great time on Saturday in Shippensburg at Scouting Rocks. We opened up with a Flag Ceremony and a moment of silence to remember those affected by the events of 9/11.
After that kids had fun with games, archery, the rock wall, and lots of great food. Everyone had fun with the Dunk booth dropping numerous leaders and even a DE into the dunk tank (several hundred times).
Several packs were there recruting and there was good interest in scouting. Many thanks to Pack 121 for organizing this great event, getting bands there, and cookin up some great food. We were glad to see representation from Pack 115, Pack 251, and some of the Chambersburg scouts.
Recruiting – We all have our part in recruiting
Well the recruiting season begins this week.
With open houses this week at most schools we need to finalize our recruitment plans. Do you know what your unit is planning? Are you asking friends and neighbors to come to your next event? Do you know when your next event is?
Here are some simple minimum goals for every pack
1 new Tiger Den of at least 5 Tigers
3-4 new boys at each level
Develop an active plan for helping 5th graders have a great experience in Webelos. (hint: keep the outing in scouting).
Many units will be shooting for at least 2 full Tiger Dens and 5 new boys at each level. How can we make this happen? Stay tuned here for the article of the day to help you along the recruiting season.
