Shotgun Range

A shotgun is a precision instrument, designed to shoot a shot charge in a specific pattern to cover a designated area at a certain distance. Unlike a rifle, the bore of the shotgun is not rifled, so the shot emerging from the muzzle is not spinning.

Shotgun Shooting is a challenging merit badge, especially among older Scouts. Scouts taking Shotgun Shooting merit badge pay an extra charge for ammunition used. There are open periods for shotgun shooting by Scouts not taking the merit badge.

Range safety is paramount for all shooting sports programs at Hidden Valley. All shotgun shooting activities are supervised by a currently NRA-certified Rifle Instructor and when on the range, must be supervised by a currently NRA-certified Range Safety Officer. Shooting safety glasses and ear protection must be worn on the shotgun range.
