Wood Badge
Welcome to Wood Badge 2012!

In conjunction with the Northeast Region of the Boy Scouts of America, the New Birth of Freedom Council is proud to host a course that offers leaders in Scouting a premier adult training experience like no other. Before the two legacy councils merged, a course has been held in this area in early spring or late summer since 1977. For the upcoming scout year, 2011-12, the NBOF will host N6-544-12 over two non-consecutive weekends: August 24-26, 2012 and September 14-16, 2012 at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation. We look forward to building on the great traditions of Wood Badge training within the newly formed New Birth of Freedom Council.
What is Wood Badge all about?
The purpose of the Wood Badge experience is to strengthen Scouting in our units, our districts, and our council. The Wood Badge “ticket” represents each participant’s commitment to complete a set of personal goals relating to that individual’s Scouting position. These goals will significantly strengthen the program in which the participant is involved. In addition, the Ticket gives participants an opportunity to practice and demonstrate a working knowledge of the leadership skills presented during the course. Participants are required to complete their Wood Badge tickets no later than 18 months after the completion of the practical phase of the course. Sign up today and start your “Journey to the Mountaintop”!

Congratulations to N6-544-11-1
As of May 22, 2011, the New Birth of Freedom Council has 46 newly trained leaders who are currently “working their tickets” to deliver the promise. Congratulations are in order for Michael Abendschoen and his staff and particularly to the 46 scout leaders who will now carry on the grand tradition of Wood Badge.
