Walter L. Pomeroy

Walter PomeroyBack in 1970, Walt Pomeroy was a geology major at Albion College when he appeared on a CBS-TV prime-time special hosted by Walter Cronkite that was a called Earth Day:  A Question of Survival.

That was only the start of Walt’s lifetime dedication to environmental causes.  In 1981, he joined the Mid-Atlantic Division of the National Audubon Society and served as a regional vice president for 17 years.  He was later appointed executive director of the PA Organization for Watersheds and Rivers, where he served from 1998-2004.  Throughout his career, Walt helped write and lobby for numerous state and federal environmental laws.

Walt’s Scouting career includes service as an Assistant Scoutmaster and committee member, merit badge counselor and member of the district advancement committee. He has also served as a leader at World Jamborees in Chile and Thailand, and he received the District Award of Merit in 2004.

Walt has served as a board member for the Listening Point Foundation, Audubon Pennsylvania, Central Pennsylvania Conservancy, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and the Pennsylvania Wild Resource Conservation Fund.  He has also served as trustee, board secretary and chair for Silver Spring Presbyterian Church.
