Ferdinand G. Prehn has accomplished a great deal in his more than three decades of dedicated service to Scouting. He currently serves as a unit commissioner in Battlefield District, in addition to serving as a committee member for Troop 70 in Arendtsville.
Ferd’s record of service to youth begins long before the time he moved to our area back in 2000, after two decades as an active Scouter in New Jersey with the Patriot’s Path Council. Ferd has served in many different Scouting roles at the unit level – Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster. While serving in Patriot’s Path Council, Ferd also worked on the Cub Scout roundtable staff, was a Boy Scout roundtable commissioner, District Commissioner, District Vice Chair and District Chair.
A recipient of the District Award of Merit in 1986, Ferd has been recognized with the Scouters Training Award, Scouters Key and Key Scouter Training Award. He has also served as a provisional Scoutmaster at summer camp and has served as a member of the faculty for Den Leader Training, Scoutmaster Basic Fundamentals and Webelos Training Courses.
A retired carpenter, Ferd also served as a member, Chief and President of Flint & Steel, a local New Jersey group of Scouters who do repairs and maintenance for Boy and Girl Scout camps in central New Jersey. A former Naval Chief Petty Officer, Ferd has also held leadership roles with American Legion Post 119 in Dunellen, NJ, the Lions Club and served as vice president of Arendtsville Borough Council for nine years.
