Upcoming Adult Leader Training Opportunities

trained-leader1Every Scout deserves a trained leader and as a council we are here to offer our leaders the best training that we possibly can. Back in 2014 the New Birth of Freedom Council began requiring all of its Cubmasters and Den Leaders to be fully trained. In 2015 and 2016 all Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Den Leaders, and Assistant Den Leaders needed to be fully trained to recharter.

While all of the Cub Scout Leader Specific trainings can be taken online at www.myscouting.org there are trainings that do need to be taken in person. In order to help get our leaders trained we are offering many in person trainings this year that will allow our leaders to become fully trained so they will not have any problems when it comes to the recharter process in 2016 (Due to the Council Office by December 1, 2016).

Please find listed below a short description of each training as well as a link to the 2015/2016 Training Registrations. The links will allow you to view the location and details for each training and a confirmation email from the course director will be sent to each participant about a week before the course. If you have questions about any of the trainings please feel free to reach out to Council Training Staff Advisor at john.blasius@scouting.org

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a supplemental course that aims to enhance the outdoor program at a Pack level. It covers appropriate outdoor activity knowledge and skills that a Cub Scout Leader should have when going on a Pack Overnighter. This training is an all-day training and is required if a pack is planning on conducting an overnight event. This training is not required for: Day Camp, Cub Scout or Webelos Resident Camping.

Scoutmaster & Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training

Scoutmaster & Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training is one of the required trainings for Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered fully trained. This training is a half day in length and is designed to give these leaders an overview of the skills that they will need to know to effectively run a Troop and where to find resources to help them. This training is required for each Scoutmaster to recharter in 2016.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills and Outdoor Webelos Leadership Skills or IOLS and OWLS is an overnight training that teaches all Boy Scout and Webelos Leaders the knowledge and skills that a leader should have for the outdoor component of the Boy Scout and Webelos program. IOLS will cover all of the outdoor skills that are required for the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. This training is required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to recharter in 2016.
