The New Birth of Freedom Council is excited to announce that we will again be offering the Certified Angling Instructor Course.  You can register for the course online at https://nbf.tentaroo.com or you can download the Certified Angling Instructor Course Registration Form and send it to the New Birth of Freedom Council Service Center, Attn: Chris Styers, 1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.  

Who should attend?
Anyone wanting to provide a stronger fishing program for youth in their area, including:  Unit Leaders for all programs, Merit Badge Counselors, Day Camp and Resident Camp Staff, and other interested volunteers.

What will I learn?
Participants will learn how to do and to teach:

  • Basic fishing and fly-fishing skills
  • Outdoor ethics for fishing
  • Fishing first aid and safety
  • Cleaning and cooking
  • Fish and wildlife habitats
  • How to make Fishing Events Fun and Memorable!

What is a Certified Angling Instructor?
A Certified Angling Instructor is a:

  • Fishing program advocate
  • Trainer
  • Fishing program resource for your Unit, District, and Council
  • Official BSA Certified position
  • Qualified for National Fishing Staff Positions at Jamborees, OA Conferences, and High Adventure Bases

What is the schedule for the Training?
Training begins at 7:00pm on Friday, August 25 and concludes with a graduation ceremony at 2:00pm on Sunday August 27.  Programs will be a mix of indoor presentation and course work as well as actual fishing.  Participants should dress accordingly for the weather as well as bring their own fishing equipment.  

How much does it cost?
Registration is $75 for the weekend, which includes: overnight cabin accommodations, meals, snacks and course materials.
