We have been made aware of a great opportunity for Scouts of all ages and programs. This morning (September 6th), we were contacted by State Representative, Matthew Dowling of the 51st Legislative District, asking for our assistance. September 12th at 11am, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will be voting on and passing HR 470 of 2017, which is a resolution designating the week of September 11th through 17th, 2017, as “Boy Scout and Cub Scout Sign-Up Week” in Pennsylvania. Representative Dowling has asked us to get as many Scouts as possible for a rally at the Capitol Building Rotunda at 9:30AM. Scouts will be asked to present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. It has also been requested that any participating Scouts are in uniform. Siblings and family members are welcome to attend the rally.
Following the rally, Representative Dowling has reserved a number of seats for Scouts in the House Chamber to be present for the vote on the resolution.
We are excited by this opportunity; however, the timing of this request is extremely short notice and smack in the middle of the school day. We are asking that every unit share this with their Scouts and families to see if anyone is available to attend. We’ve committed to sharing the information and letting families decide whether this is something in which they would like to participate.
We apologize that this information is finding each of you so late. As stated above, the Council first received word of this event on September 6th. Families wishing to participate can contact me directly. If Scouts and families are planning to stay for vote at 11AM, I will need to know so that Representative Dowling can make sure there are enough seats. They will be available on first come first serve basis.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you for sharing this information.
Yours in Scouting,
