The York, Southern York County, and Red Lion-Dallastown Rotary Clubs joined together in the fall of 2018 to restore a historic landscape architecture originally consisting of 400 sycamore trees. These trees were originally planted by the War Mothers Club following World War I as a memorial to all those who served in that war. Known as the Road of Remembrance Veterans Memorial, these trees were placed along 12 miles of the Susquehanna Trail from the Maryland Line to Jacobus. Approximately 200 of these century-old trees were still standing when this restoration effort began and to this point, 137 young trees have been planted over the past year and a half, with a goal of 200 restored trees still in mind.
