BSA Membership Fee Increases for 2020

We had previously notified you last month that the Boy Scouts of America had informed local councils that a membership fee increase for youth and adult members was likely. Today, the National Executive Board decided to increase annual membership fees, effective January 1, 2020, as follows:

  • $60 for youth members in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts,
  • $36 for youth members in Exploring, and
  • $36 for adult members
  • $60 unit charter fee

100% of youth member and adult leader registration fees go to support the operation of the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. The National Council advises that the 2020 increases are necessary because of the cost of liability insurance that must be carried to cover all Scouting activities has increased dramatically over the past several months. The national organization is no longer able to offset the cost of this insurance coverage.

Each of these fees will have an immediate impact as units complete the 2020 charter renewal process.

Please note there will be no change to the New Birth of Freedom Council’s $3 per person insurance fee collected at recharter time.
