The Council’s Executive Committee has been meeting on a weekly basis to determine what, if any, programs can take place at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation, Camp Conewago, and Camp Tuckahoe this summer. Below is an update from the Committee’s meeting on May 26, 2020.
The Executive Committee has asked the Council Camping Committee to evaluate options and make recommendations for the potential use of the camps over the summer and into the fall. The Executive Committee anticipates providing another update in two to three weeks.
All camps remain closed in June
Currently, Perry, Adams, and York Counties are in the yellow phase of Governor Wolf’s plan to reopen Pennsylvania and our camps remain closed to camping and programs. Even if Perry, Adams, and York Counties turn green in the near term, they will stay closed until the end of June.
While the camps are closed in June, our Camp Rangers can organize small work parties of no more than 25 people, with the advance approval of the Director of Camping. Work parties will be for the day only – no overnight stays are authorized.
Work party participants must follow all Boy Scouts of America, PA Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control guidelines, including but not limited to not displaying a fever, and observe handwashing, social distancing, wearing masks, sanitation, and cleaning of all equipment and facilities. All buildings and shower facilities at the camps remain closed unless it is the focus of work. A single bathroom will be open at each camp, once arrangements are confirmed for frequent cleaning.
Our camps may be open on a limited basis starting in July if the camps are in the green zone
If Perry, Adams, and York Counties turn green by July, the camps will open for short term campsite use only. Stays longer than three nights will not be permitted. No cabins will be available for rentals, and ALL buildings will be closed. Additionally, no showers will be available.
Camp attendees will be required to follow all BSA, state and CDC guidelines, including but not limited to not displaying a fever, and observe handwashing, social distancing, wearing masks, sanitation, and cleaning of all equipment and facilities. A single bathroom will be open at each camp, once arrangements are confirmed for frequent cleaning.
More details, including likely more guidelines and restrictions, will follow.
