To the New Birth of Freedom Council Scouting Family:
It is with great sadness that we inform you that, after a thorough review, the New Birth of Freedom Council has been compelled to also suspend our summer Day Camp and Twilight Camp Programs as scheduled for the 2020 season. The Council Executive Committee unanimously reached this difficult decision after additional weeks of waiting did not yield a clearer direction or guidance that would present an opportunity where Day and Twilight Camps could be held within the specified guidance outlined in Pennsylvania’s phased reopening plan.
Our hope was that the additional weeks since the resident camp decision developments would still allow us to conduct these camps. For many of the same reasons discussed in our decision on resident camp, current circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges of maintaining the required sanitation practices in sites that are open to public use, we felt that these camping opportunities would simply create too much risk to the safety of our Scouts, leaders, and employees (as well as their families at home once they leave camp) to conduct camp programs responsibly.
We will refund 100% of all monies collected for all 2020 Day and Twilight Camps. We plan to begin sending refunds out in the next couple of weeks and we will work as quickly as we can to complete the refund process for every unit or family.
Though we canceled the scheduled programs for 2020, we look forward to the pending announcement about virtual summer opportunities for Scouts and hope that we may yet be able to offer something in person later in the summer months.
We hope that you and your family stay safe and well and Keep On Scouting!
