The New Birth of Freedom Council is partnering with PA CareerLink to jumpstart Exploring programs for interested youth, ages 10-14, in an all-new Virtual Reality Exploring Club. This program will utilize virtual reality headsets to simulate the experiences of being an Engineer. We are looking to help interested youth explore potential career paths by showing them the potential opportunities in this career field.
On July 22nd, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, the New Birth of Freedom Council will offer a 1 and half-hour orientation that serves as an introduction to engineering and technical skills. This orientation will take place at the Lincoln School Gymnasium which is stationed at 1601 State St, Harrisburg, PA 17103. Students will be involved in hands-on learning through an exercise involving virtual reality headsets that provide a tour of PA CareerLink’s virtual program. The scouts will learn about some of the applications and technical skills associated with engineering such as;
- Learning how to use power tools safely and efficiently.
- ‘Exploring’ Electrical applications and using them safely.
- Experiencing operations such as starting and running an aircraft.
The students will be involved in hands-on learning through using virtual reality headsets which gives them a completely safe and new method of learning technical skills and trades. The orientation will provide a class where they will learn about some of the applications of these virtual reality technologies to positively impact their career path as well as their community. Learning will occur via discussions and virtual classes throughout the program.
For more information, please check out the Virtual Reality Exploring Club Registration for more details and how to sign up to participate.
Please note that these sessions are limited to 20 youth, and sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis.
