Project Hercules – Chainsaw Training

Chainsaw Basic certification allows Scouters over the age of 21 to operate a chainsaw on Scouting property. This two-year certification will teach provide instruction on the proper and safe use of a chainsaw. Participants will spend their two online sessions learning the building blocks and introductory principles to prepare them for their in-person practicum day. In this course, participants will learn:

  • What proper safety attire is required and how to use it
  • How to conduct a daily chainsaw inspection
  • The proper techniques to buck and limb a downed tree
  • Important tips to remain safe while operating a chainsaw.
  • How to care for a chain saw for the long-term.
  • How to get yourself out of a dangerous situation

Our upcoming training dates are March 13, March 27, April 10, and May 8.

March 13 Training

The training’s online portions will be offered on March 7 and 8 from 7-9:00 PM; the in-person session will be offered on March 13 from 9:00 AM until finished (all sessions must be attended for certification). Further communication will be sent to you closer to the certification days.

March 27 Training

The training’s online portions will be offered on March 21 and 22 from 7-9:00 PM; the in-person session will be offered on March 27 from 9:00 AM until finished (all sessions must be attended for certification). Further communication will be sent to you closer to the certification days. Please note, this class and all future classes will have their in-person session at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation.

April 10 Training
