Herbert A. Snyder, Jr. – 2021 Silver Beaver Award Honoree

Herb Snyder began his service as a Scouting volunteer in 2000 when his first-grader came home from school and let his dad know he wanted to become a Tiger Cub. Herb and his son joined Pack 71 in Biglerville, PA.

Herb held several roles in Pack 71, including Den Leader Coach, Committee Member, and Webelos Den Leader. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 71 in 2004, and he would serve as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 71 and Troop 125 from 2005-09.

In 2011, Herb became a unit commissioner in the Battlefield District before serving as District Commissioner from 2013-17. Herb was dedicated to providing quality commissioner service, and he received the Arrowhead Honor in 2015 and completed his Doctorate of Commissioner Service in 2016.

Herb also took on the role of District Activities Chair while also serving as District Commissioner due to illnesses within the Activities Committee. After several years in this dual role, Herb stepped down as District Commissioner to concentrate all his time and attention on district activities.

One of Herb’s friends and Scouting colleagues said that “while Herb may be soft-spoken, his passion for serving the Scouts of Battlefield District with trained leaders and experienced commissioners is top-notch. Under his guidance, the Activities Committee provides well-planned district events that are well-run and FUN!”

Herb has also served as a merit badge counselor, Venturing Crew Advisor for Crew 3, and he received the District Award of Merit in 2012.

The New Birth of Freedom Council is pleased to present the Silver Beaver Award to Herbert A. Snyder, Jr.
