William F. McQuade – 2021 Silver Beaver Award Honoree

Bill McQuade has served as President of the New Birth of Freedom Council since May 2019, a period of intense challenge for Scouting as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the closure of our summer camps in 2020 and dramatic changes in how Scouting programs were conducted for more than a year.

Throughout his tenure as Council President, Bill was able to nimbly balance his work responsibilities as Vice President Sector Service for the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), based in Arlington, VA, with a demanding calendar of special Board and committee meetings that kept growing as the pandemic worsened. Bill’s steady leadership and support were critical in helping the Council continue supporting local Scouting programs throughout the pandemic and navigating the significant financial challenges impacting the Council.

Before becoming Council President, Bill had been serving as Vice President for Administration as a member of the Council’s Executive Board (since 2017). Bill is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 51 in Camp Hill, PA (since 2014) and is a recipient of the Tiger Cub Den Leader Award (2011), Den Leader Award (2012), Webelos Den Leader Award (2015), Cub Scouter Award (2013) and he completed Wood Badge training in 2012.

Bill is a graduate of Penn State University (BSME – 1991, MBA – 1998) and serves on the board of directors for several industry associations, including the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy, and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute.

Outside of Scouting, Bill served as a Sunday School teacher for nearly 7 years for Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, PA.

The New Birth of Freedom Council is pleased to present the Silver Beaver Award to William F. McQuade.
