NRA Range Safety Officer Training Available on September 14

Location: Hidden Valley Scout Reservation, 268 Hidden Valley Road, Loysville, PA 17047

Cost: $10 per participant
Class Size: Limited to 16 participants
Eligibility: Must be at least 21 years old

Course Overview

The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Training Course is designed to prepare Scouters to safely serve as RSOs during Scout shooting sports events. This is a classroom-based training—no firearms or live shooting are involved.

This course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to fulfill the responsibilities of an NRA Range Safety Officer.

Important: Completion of this training does not guarantee certification. To earn NRA RSO certification, participants must:

  • Pass the written exam with the required score

  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitude

What NOT to Bring

  • Scout uniform

  • Firearms or ammunition

What to Bring

  • Pencils, pens, highlighters, and a notepad

  • Scouter registration card

  • NRA membership and instructor card (if applicable)

  • Signed copy of the NBOFC Shooting Sports Support Agreement (copies available on-site if needed)

  • A positive attitude and readiness to learn

NRA Membership Requirement

  • You will need your NRA membership number to enroll.

  • After completing the course, you must log in to the NRA website to pay your certification fee.

  • Certification must be paid within approximately 30 days, or it will lapse.
