Eagle Scouts Can Apply for VFW Scholarship

Each year, the Department of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) offers a scholarship to any Scout who achieves the rank of Eagle Scout. Participants begin by competing at the local level, with the winner advancing to the district level. From there, the competition moves on to the state level, and ultimately, the state winner competes at the national level.

The VFW’s long history of involvement with youth organizations, particularly with Scouting, is one of its most enduring legacies. The VFW’s partnership with the Boy Scouts of America dates back to 1915, when VFW Post 2100 helped establish Troop 1 in Everett, Washington. Through the VFW’s Scout of the Year program, members scouting organizations who demonstrate exceptional citizenship, patriotism, and a love of country are eligible to receive college scholarships. These scholarships are available to registered, active members of Scouting America, Venturing Crews, or Sea Scout Ships who have earned the Eagle Scout Award, Venture Summit Award, or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award. There is no minimum age requirement, though applicants must be under 18 years old.

The deadline for entry to VFW Post is March 1.
