The October Council-Wide Roundtable, held on October 2, brought together leaders from across the New Birth of Freedom Council to share important updates, celebrate recent successes, and look ahead to exciting opportunities.
One of the biggest highlights was the tremendous success of the Shadows of 1864 Camporee, which drew 3,828 participants, including Scouts, leaders, day visitors, and reenactors from the Federal Volunteer Brigade. A recap video will be shared on the council website in the coming weeks.
Looking forward, preparations are well underway for the 2026 National Jamboree, a once-every-four-years Scouting adventure packed with high-adventure activities, leadership opportunities, and friendship. Our council contingent still has openings for both youth participants and adult leaders. Now is the time to talk with your Scouts about this life-changing opportunity and reserve your spot before space fills.
The fall Popcorn and Nuts Sale is in full swing, with key deadlines approaching for prize orders, returns, and distributions. Units should also mark their calendars for the Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner on November 25 at the Hershey Lodge, honoring all new Eagle Scouts from the past year.
Camping news featured exciting program opportunities, including the Halloween Day event at Camp Tuckahoe on October 25, Wilderness Survival Weekend at Hidden Valley (October 17–19), and next summer’s Cub Scout, Webelos/AOL, Pack, and Scouts BSA resident camp sessions. Units that register for 2026 summer camp sessions before November 1 can lock in 2025 pricing- don’t miss this chance to save on 2026 summer camp.
Scout Executive Ron Gardner provided updates on facilities and training. At Hidden Valley Scout Reservation, the West Camp cabins received new HVAC systems, including air conditioning. Other improvements included new privacy partitions in the Year-Round Shower Building and the Wagner Training Center, as well as additional laundry facilities.
At Camp Tuckahoe, the dining hall and several Cub World structures received new metal roofs, and other facilities were repainted. Looking ahead to 2026, projects include renovating the pool shower facilities at Tuckahoe and pool repairs.
Ron also introduced the new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), which replaces Youth Protection Training. All volunteers must complete SYT by May 31, 2026.
