Camp Hidden Valley – Returning to Our Roots

Following a recommendation from the Council’s Camping Committee, the Executive Board unanimously approved the transition from Hidden Valley Scout Reservation to Camp Hidden Valley.

As the camp approaches its Centennial in 2027, this change returns the property to its historic identity while positioning it to serve future generations of Scouts and outdoor enthusiasts. More than a name change, it is a reaffirmation of the camp’s heritage and a commitment to its future.

Why Camp Hidden Valley?

Historical Authenticity

The property was originally known as Camp Hidden Valley. Returning to that historic name honors nearly a century of Scouting tradition while reconnecting the camp with the identity generations of Scouts knew and loved.

Appropriate Property Identification

Within Scouting America, the term “reservation” has traditionally been associated with properties containing multiple camps or distinct program areas operating as part of a larger reservation. Hidden Valley functions as a single camp property. The name Camp Hidden Valley more accurately reflects the property’s structure while aligning with the naming convention used by many Scouting America camps across the country.

Centennial Momentum

As Camp Hidden Valley approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, returning to the camp’s historic name provides a natural foundation for Centennial celebrations, special events, fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and renewed awareness of the camp’s rich history and bright future.

Welcoming to All Users

The name “Scout Reservation” may suggest a facility primarily intended for Scouting activities. While Camp Hidden Valley will always remain a Scouting America property, the name “Camp Hidden Valley” is more welcoming and accessible to schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations that may utilize the property throughout the year. The updated name better reflects the camp’s role as both a premier Scouting destination and a resource for the broader community.

Clear & Memorable

The streamlined name is cleaner, easier to remember, and more effective across marketing materials, digital platforms, signage, and rental outreach.

Background and Rationale

Hidden Valley has served our Scouting community since 1927—nearly a century of outdoor adventure, leadership development, and character building.

In 2024, the decision was made to discontinue traditional summer resident camp programming for Scouts, a change that took effect in 2025. While the camp remains fully operational for weekend camping, training events, outdoor programs, and Scouting activities throughout the year, the summer months now present a significant opportunity to rent the facility to external organizations.

This shift in operational model, combined with the approaching Centennial celebration in 2027, created the ideal opportunity to revisit the property’s identity and position it for long-term success.

Updated Logo

Alongside the name change, we have updated the camp’s visual identity to reflect both the camp’s heritage and its future. The new logo draws directly from historic Camp Hidden Valley patches while modernizing the design for today’s applications.

Key elements include:

  • Retains the classic pine trees and red tent imagery that appeared on historic Camp Hidden Valley patches.
  • Incorporates the official Scouting America Fleur-de-Lis, reinforcing the camp’s connection to Scouting America and its mission.
  • Uses a clean circular badge format that is versatile across signage, apparel, merchandise, digital media, and print materials.
  • Features the CAMP HIDDEN VALLEY name and EST. 1927 designation, proudly highlighting the camp’s heritage and longevity.

Looking Ahead

The transition to Camp Hidden Valley is more than a name change. It is a reaffirmation of the camp’s heritage and a commitment to its future.

As the camp enters its second century, the Council remains dedicated to preserving, enhancing, and promoting this treasured property so that future generations of Scouts can continue to experience adventure, leadership development, outdoor skills, and lifelong memories at Camp Hidden Valley.

The transition will be implemented across signage, marketing materials, digital platforms, rental communications, merchandise, and program materials in advance of the camp’s Centennial celebration in 2027.

For nearly 100 years, generations of Scouts have built friendships, developed leadership skills, explored the outdoors, and created memories that last a lifetime at Camp Hidden Valley. By returning to our roots, we position the camp to continue serving youth, families, and communities for the next 100 years.
