Keystone Capital District Klondike at Hidden Valley
Lace up your boots and prepare to conquer new heights at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation in Loysville! Our district’s *epic* winter adventure — **Everest Quest** — will challenge Scouts to climb higher, think sharper, and push their limits in at our District Klondike Derby inspired by the legendary peaks of the Himalayas.
Held the weekend of **January 30 – February 1**, this exhilarating challenge features **twelve rugged and competitive stations** designed to test Scout skills and teamwork — just like an expedition to the top of the world. Each patrol will load up their sled (your trusty “mountain supply sled”) with the required gear and embark on the climb toward victory and the highest summit scores.
**Cost:** $15 per Scout and $8 per troop adult. Volunteer staffers participate for just $4.50. Every registration includes a special **Everest Quest Klondike patch** and a lunch served in the base camp comfort of the heated dining hall. Be sure to make your lunch selection when registering.
Keep an eye on your calendar — prices increase with the late fee three weeks before the event on **January 9**, and no reductions or refunds are available after **January 16** (two weeks prior). Registration closes completely on **January 24**. Register early to stay up-to-date with details for the **Scoutmaster/SPL/Sled Leader/Staff Meeting.**
The Klondike wouldn’t be possible without our **dedicated base camp crew** — the adult volunteers who keep the expedition running smoothly. While adults can’t shadow Scouts on the mountain trail, they *can* make all the difference by volunteering. Be the steady rope that keeps the Scouts’ journey safe and successful — join the Everest Quest team!
Each sled team must have **5 to 9 Scouts.** Got more than 9? Bring another sled! Have fewer than 5? Link up with another small troop to form a **combined expedition team** ready for the climb. Need help connecting? The district can help match you up — some troops may even have an extra sled ready for your crew. *(Note: This is a Scouts BSA winter event, not open to Cub Scouts.)*
And when the day’s challenges are done, settle in at base camp for evening fellowship. The weekend will include a **Catholic Mass**, a **Scouts’ Own Service**, and a **mountain movie night** in the dining hall — a Scout favorite that always draws a crowd.
So strap on your packs (and definitely bring your gloves!) and get ready to scale new heights of adventure, teamwork, and fun. Join us for **Everest Quest — where only the bold reach the summit!**
