Wilderness Survival Weekend 2023
October 20-22, 2023 at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation
Participants may complete requirements for Wilderness Survival Merit Badge and enjoy a weekend of fun!
Upon arrival, Units must check-in at Camp Headquarters.
You will need to provide your Unit Roster by patrol.
Friday, October 20th
7-9 PM: Troop sign-in at Scout Pavilion for SPL orientation.
Saturday, October 21st
7:30 AM: SPL meeting at “Fishing Cabin” (by K1); distribute schedules
8:00-10:00 AM: Merit Badge classes at Scout Pavilion; a multiple-choice test concludes class (show, demonstrate, describe…) Scouts: Bring your Blue Card!
10:00-1:00 PM: Scouts construct shelter & eat lunch at own campsite
1:30-5:00 PM: Wilderness Skills training at “boat dock field”; scouts will rotate through stations based on a schedule.
2:30-5:00 PM: “Shelter Judging Team” will visit sites and inspect shelters for prizes.
Evening: Scouts finish shelter, campfires by patrols/troops in their own areas; scouts move to and sleep in shelters overnight.
Sunday, October 22nd
8:00-9:00 AM: Scoutmasters meet with program leader & confirm scouts slept in shelters. He will then distribute the signed blue cards to Scoutmasters. All paid participants will receive patches.
10:00 AM: Wilderness Survival weekend complete; depart at will.
– MUST BRING: water bottle, and the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge Pamphlet if working on the badge.
– Pre-Requisites: Requirement #5 – Make and bring your “personal survival kit”.
– Scouts should bring tarps, tinder, and kindling.

Before departing, Units must check out at Camp Headquarters. Be sure to leave camp cleaner than you found it “Leave No Trace”.
The event is limited to the first 100 participants.

Cost for Adults – $5
All payments are non-refundable & non-transferrable.
Wilderness Survival will be held rain or shine.
