York Scout Shop Closing May 11, York Service Center Closing May 17

As you may recall, we previously shared plans to establish our council headquarters into a unified new service center at a renovated original dining hall at Camp Tuckahoe, selling both the Mechanicsburg and York service centers, with the York office going up for sale first.

We entered into a sales agreement to sell the York office to a real estate holding company last fall, and we now know that our sale closing will be in late May.

With that closing date set, I wanted to let everyone know our schedule for moving out of the York Service Center:

  • The York Scout Shop will remain open through Saturday, May 11.
  • The Council will discontinue operating out of the York Service Center on Friday, May 17, to allow us to move everything out of the building.

All of our staff will be relocated to the Mechanicsburg Service Center temporarily.

The Mechanicsburg Scout Shop will continue its regular operations until we move into the new service center following the renovation of the original dining hall at Tuckahoe.

Change is always challenging, as most people like things to stay the way they are. This step is the first of several vital actions our Executive Board has mapped out to reposition our council for a bright future in south-central Pennsylvania.

We continue to make progress with our plans for the new service center and anticipate soon being able to share news regarding the renovations planned for the original dining hall at Tuckahoe.

Thank you for all you do for Scouting in the New Birth of Freedom Council.

Yours in Scouting,

Ron Gardner
Scout Executive & CEO
