Donna L. Baum – 2021 Silver Beaver Award Honoree

Even after all three of her sons achieved the Eagle Scout rank, Donna has continued her active service in Scouting as a volunteer leader.

Donna currently serves as the Scoutmaster of Troop 171 in Pioneer District — a role she has held since 2014. Donna began her adult Scouting service as a Den Leader in Pack 171 from 2001-06. She then became an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 171 in 2007 and served in that role until she became the troop’s Scoutmaster. Donna has also served as Crew Committee Chair for Venture Crew 171 from 2013-16.

Donna also took on several important roles at the district level, serving as a merit badge counselor (since 2012), District Activities Committee Co-Chair (2011-15), and District Member-At-Large (2016-19). For her work at the district level, Donna received the District Award of Merit in 2013.

A Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, Donna also served as a Scoutmaster for the Council’s National Jamboree contingent in 2010 and 2017 and as a World Jamboree Scoutmaster in 2019. In 2018, she served as Chair for the Council’s University of Scouting. Donna completed her Wood Badge training in 2007, and she has served on the faculty for six Wood Badge courses between 2012-19. She also served on staff for the National Youth Leadership Training Course in 2012.

A friend and colleague said that “Donna is a role model of leadership and character not only to the Scouts in her troop but to the Scouts of the entire council. Donna is truly a dedicated Scouts BSA leader who epitomizes the ideals of the Scouting program.”

The New Birth of Freedom Council is pleased to present the Silver Beaver Award to Donna L. Baum.
